Keeper
Keeper at ICA explores the art of collecting and preserving objects, from teddy bears to hidden archives.
On 14 April 2026, the Institute of Contemporary Arts in Soho opens *Keeper*, a thought‑provoking exhibition that turns the museum itself into a cabinet of curiosities. Curated by Massimiliano Gioni and a team of ICA curators, the show gathers a kaleidoscope of personal archives, imagined museums and unconventional assemblages to ask why we collect, preserve and venerate objects – from humble household items to celebrated artworks.
At the heart of *Keeper* is Ydessa Hendeles’ iconic *Partners (The Teddy Bear Project)*, a sprawling display of over 3,000 family‑album photographs paired with vintage teddy bears, which frames the exhibition’s meditation on memory, affection and the power of the everyday object. The programme also features works by Hilma af Klint, Oliver Croy, and a host of international artists whose collections reveal hidden histories and the quiet heroism of safeguarding cultural fragments.
Beyond the galleries, ICA offers talks, workshops and a late‑night reception that invite visitors to reflect on the role of museums in a world where objects can be both fragile and fiercely contested. Whether you’re a collector, a history buff or simply curious about the stories objects can tell, *Keeper* promises a richly layered experience that lingers long after you leave the ICA.
